Lesson 4 | Bearing the Hostility of the World

First Peter 2:9 refers to Christians as a “chosen people,” rendered in the King James Version as a “peculiar people.” Modern versions have altered the phraseology because of the negative connotations the word has acquired, and yet Christians living according to the will and example of Jesus may appear peculiar to others. As a result, Christians will sometimes attract distrust, derision, and persecution in the wider world. At least they will if they’re doing it correctly.
